Heath Ledger Dies

Heath Ledger's Body was found in his Soho Apartment earlier this afternoon. Police say there were pills strewn across the actors bed. The pills are said to be a prescription sleeping pill and The New York Times are calling the death a suicide.

An autopsy will be performed tomorrow, January 23rd.

Heath was 28 years old and he leaves behind a 2 year old daughter, Matilda.

Shock.

UPDATE:

A rep for Heath Ledgers family has contacted tmz.com and assured them that the police confirmed his death was an accident.

"They are particularly distraught over media reports that he may have taken his own life. The family says he was not that kind of person."

A cleaning lady arrived at Heaths apartment and was followed by a masseuse who was there for a scheduled appointment. They both entered Heath's room at the same time, and this is when they found Heath's body. He had been dead for a while and there were no signs of trauma.

His rep is asking for the media not to speculate on the cause of death and obviously respect the family during this traumatic time.

Hollywood is in a state of shock with statements coming from everyone from Mel Gibson to studio execs.

"I had such great hope for him. He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family." Mel Gibson

"What a tragedy. My heart goes out to his family." Nicole Kidman

"Heath Ledger was a courageous actor, and a great soul. He gave us the gift of sharing his fearless and beautiful love – of his craft, and of all who worked with him – for which all of us will be eternally grateful," James Schamus, CEO of Focus Features and the the producer of Brokeback Mountain.

"The studio is stunned and devastated by this tragic news. The entertainment community has lost an enormous talent. Heath was a brilliant actor and an exceptional person. Our hearts go out to his family and friends." Warner Brothers, the producers of Dark Night

"This is an unimaginable tragedy, Heath was a true artist, a deeply sensitive man, an explorer, gifted and wise beyond his years. There is no finer person on this earth." Todd Haynes, Director of I'm Not There

I fear the media circus that is going to be happening in the next couple of days. I especially fear it because Heath was not the type to make headlines. He seemed to shy away from praise and the "spotlight".

A man who hated the paparazzi and the gossip will be making the front pages of every glossy weekly with rumors and speculation.

Sad.

So sad - and even sadder that the execs have probably already started to see the numbers his new movies will bring in because of the tragedy.
